Green Interior Design Now Made Easier!

March 12, 2014

In recent news, California has updated the flammability law, so that furniture manufactures are no longer required to add flame retardants to the foam in upholstered furniture. The health issues associated with flame retardants are numerous and it is quite frankly a relief that there is no law requiring this anymore! After 39 years, California has reason to celebrate this move in a greener and healthier direction.

The chemicals found in flame retardants are vast and include cancer, reproductive issues, and an impaired IQ. However, it is important to keep in mind that the flame retardants are not banned, just not required. Green San Francisco Interior Design Firm Niche Interiors posted a recent blog about the law being edited and the health related issues here.
